Use of a hardware real time clock rtc allows the raspberry pi to be used without internet access and still provide services that use time stamps.

1 begingroup i ve been tinkering around with making a fancy clock on a raspberry pi b.
I ve been messing about with the pi zero w and one of my raspio inspiring boards to make a colourful clock that keeps accurate time using ntp network time protocol.
This post will cover this topic more further down.

It uses internet access to set the time with the help of ntp servers.
Sudo apt get install ntp.
Raspberry pi does not include a hardware clock on board.
Create a smart clock with a raspberry pi inspired by this article i ve decided to create a new clock for my living room.
Now we need to install ntp with the following command enter password if prompted and y when asked to continue.
Sudo nano etc hostname sudo nano etc hosts sudo reboot set screen black on boot.
It s quite a visual thing so i made a video about it.
We want the display stay clean without the rubbish during the starting of the clock.
Add user to sudo group.
Sudo usermod ag sudo clock remove pi user exit ssh clock your raspberry ip sudo deluser remove home pi change hostname.
Ntp clock on a raspberry pi.
Raspberry pi amateur radio digital clock.
I built it on top of newest rasperry pi model 3b with its official 7 display so some things are a bit different than those explained in that article and the pages it links to.
Depending on your distribution and version your raspberry pi may already have time sync enabled by default use the command timedatectl to see the current configuration but most of the time you need to select the proper time zone and then the servers to use in the configuration and alternatively you can also use the linux ntp services.

A raspberry pi digital wall clock written in free pascal and lazarus with full source code and binaries.
I decided to build a digital clock using the low cost tm1637 4 digit displays and a raspberry pi zero w instead of just a gui.
This is designed to run on an analog tv but should work equally well on any attached monitor.
Because the zero w has wifi onboard it s perfect for things like this.
This little application will sync the pi s time with an ntp server then display it.
There is a lot going on here but the key words to google are nmea reference clock and ntp drift if you want to learn more.
