If you look along the edge of that plate cover right up against the door you should notice a little notch.

You rightfully infer it will be easy enough simply take out a few screws and take the knob right off.
There should be a small latch near the base of the knob or handle probably on the exterior side of the door.
Once triggered the lever or lock trim can be removed from the door.
If any screws are exposed during this process remove them to release the lock and remove it from the door.
Tug on the knob and it will slide right off.

Next find a small slot on the edge of the trim piece.
The door handle will now slide off.
If you don t see a screw head inside the slot.
