Remove Sliding Glass Door Rail

Open the door and ask your helper to slightly lift the screen door.

Remove sliding glass door rail.

Remove the bottom rail from the door by removing one screw on both sides at the bottom with a drill driver. A stop is a narrow board with a screw in it that holds the top of the sliding door in place. Lift the door straight up and tilt the base of the door toward you while leaning the top of the door out of its track. On the bottom edge of the door you ll notice a cap.

Remove the door by pulling it out of the top track of the door frame. Lift the outside door up tilt the base in and pull the top out at the same time. Carefully lower the door and remove from the bathroom. Removing an andersen sliding glass door located above the sliding glass door on the interior side is a wood stop.

The door should slide right out of the top track once you ve freed it from the bottom track. This will detach the outer door from its track. If your sliding glass doors don t have the screen door then you may move on to the next step. Do this to both ends of the screen door and lift the screen door off the track.

To remove the screen door use a flathead screwdriver. Lift one end of the frame and use a screwdriver or stiff putty knife to lift the bottom rollers from the track. Use the plastic hammer to slam against the two sides of the frame to loosen the caulk then drag gently of the wall. Insert the screwdriver at the bottom to lift the rollers from the track.

Once the door is completely loose from the frame set it aside somewhere safe such as against the side of the house or lying flat on a work bench. Remove this cap because as you ll notice it is covering a gap inside of which is a screw. Ask a helper to hold the sliding door and the remove the screw with a cordless drill. Determine the size of the screwdriver you ll need reach back into the gap with your screwdriver and adjust that screw counter clockwise as far as it will go.

Peel off any residual caulk.
